Sancaktepe, on İstanbul's Asian side, is bordered by Kartal, Maltepe, Ataşehir, Ümraniye, Çekmeköy, Pendik and Sultanbeyli. Formed in 2008 from the merger of townships belonging to Ümraniye and Kartal, it is a largely residential district that includes the Samandıra area.
