Çekmeköy is a district on İstanbul's Asian side, bordered by Beykoz, Şile, Ümraniye and Sancaktepe, with extensive forested land. The Alemdağ forests and the green areas around Lake Ömerli include one of the largest heathlands in the Eastern Mediterranean and Eastern Europe; the district was established in 2008.
