Halkapınar is a small district split off from Ereğli. South of the town, beside the İvriz stream, the İvriz Rock Monument is a Late Hittite relief from the 8th century BC; it shows King Warpalavas praying to the god Tarhundas and has been on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List since 2017.
