Gaziemir lies south of İzmir and is home to Adnan Menderes Airport. Formerly called Seydiköy, it took its current name in 1965 and became a separate district in 1992 after splitting from Konak. Fuar İzmir (the İzmir trade fair grounds) and the Aegean Free Zone also lie within the district.
