Tuzla, at the southeastern tip of İstanbul's Asian side, has 13 kilometres of Marmara Sea coastline. Turkey's largest shipyard district is located here, along with the İstanbul Park Formula 1 circuit and the Turkish Naval Academy. It separated from Gebze in 1954 and became an independent district in 1992.
