Antioch Castle was founded around 300 BC by Seleucus I Nicator, one of Alexander the Great's generals, and was later used in turn by the Romans, Byzantines, Crusaders, Seljuks and Ottomans. The city walls, about 12 km long and thought to have included some 360 towers, have been heavily damaged by repeated earthquakes and wars over the centuries; the surviving sections stand mainly on Habib-i Neccar (Mount Silpius). Visiting conditions may have changed since the 2023 earthquakes; check before you go.
