Erbaa

Erbaa, in northwestern Tokat, lies on the fertile Erbaa Plain; Samsun's Çarşamba and Ordu's Akkuş border it to the north, Amasya's Taşova to the west, and Tokat's Niksar to the east. After the earthquakes of 1939, 1942 and 1943, the old centre, built directly on the North Anatolian Fault, was relocated in 1944; the Horoztepe site has yielded pre-Hittite Hatti finds dated to around 2400-2200 BCE.
