Hafik lies 39 km east of Sivas, on the Sivas–Erzincan highway. Hafik Lake, a karstic lake formed on a gypsum plateau, and Lota Lake, which contains two separate lakes, are the district's natural points of interest; its name was changed to Koçhisar in 1873 and reverted to Hafik in 1926.
