Kavak, on the Samsun-Ankara highway, lies 50 km from central Samsun. The 13th-century Taş Han (Minoz Han) caravanserai, the Yörgüç Paşa Mosque and the 19th-century Çakallı Bridge are its historic highlights; a tirit dish made with goose meat is a local speciality.
