A first-degree natural conservation area of 1,562 hectares, Acarlar Longozu is surrounded by ash forests; the area, which dries out in summer, is covered by up to 1.5 metres of water in winter. Fish such as carp and tench and birds such as pheasants and wild ducks live in the area, which is toured by boat or water bicycle.
