Agora of Smyrna

The Agora was the administrative, social and religious centre of ancient Smyrna in the Hellenistic and Roman periods; much of what survives dates to the 2nd century AD. Built on three levels following the Hippodamian city plan, it is one of the largest and best-preserved lonian agoras. Excavations have uncovered statues of Zeus, Poseidon, Demeter and Artemis along with many reliefs and figurines.
