Built directly opposite Anadolu Fortress by Fatih Sultan Mehmed in just four months in 1452, Rumeli Fortress covers an area of about 30 dönüm and consists of three great towers and connecting walls. It was built to cut off any help reaching Constantinople from the north during the siege; today it is open as a museum and hosts open-air events in summer.
