Basilica Cistern
A Byzantine underground cistern of hundreds of columns, famous for its Medusa heads.

Built in the 6th century under Justinian, the cistern supplied the city with water. Hundreds of columns rising from the water in dim light and the Medusa heads beneath two of the columns are its symbols.
