Canca (Tzaniha) Castle, on a steep rock mass at 1,530 m elevation, 8 km from central Gümüşhane, has no confirmed construction date, but it is thought to have been built to protect the region's silver mines and trade routes. The three-part castle has 1.5 m-thick bastions and a still-intact water cistern.
