Ancient Karkamış, on the west bank of the Euphrates at the Turkey-Syria border, is one of the most important sites in Near Eastern archaeology. It was the capital of the Kingdom of Karkamış, the strongest of the Late Hittite kingdoms founded after the fall of the Hittite Empire. Most of the reliefs found in excavations are displayed at the Anatolian Civilizations Museum in Ankara and the Gaziantep Archaeology Museum.
