İzzet Paşa Mosque stands in central Elazığ, opposite the old government mansion. The site was bought in 1866 by governor Hacı Ahmet İzzet Paşa, and the present building was erected between 1967 and 1972 with contributions from the public. Measuring 44 by 28.5 metres, the mosque has twin minarets, each with two balconies, and a 20-metre main dome surrounded by 25 smaller domes; it was Türkiye's first mosque with an elevator inside a minaret.
