Construction began in 1403 under Emir Süleyman, son of Yıldırım Bayezid, and was completed in 1414 in the reign of Çelebi Sultan Mehmed. The square, nine-domed building was first known as the Ulu Cami and took the name Eski Cami (Old Mosque) after the Üç Şerefeli Mosque was built nearby. Its white marble portal, entrance porch and minbar are notable features.
