Kızılırmak lies 56 km from central Çankırı, made up of plains along the Kızılırmak river and the hills around them. Thanks to a microclimate milder than the surrounding region, rice — which cannot be grown in neighbouring Sulakyurt — has been the district's main crop for about 15 years.
