Once an important trading centre on the Silk Road, Mudurnu preserves a dense fabric of Ottoman civil architecture, with 207 of its 231 registered buildings being houses; the Armutçular and Keyvanlar mansions are the best known. The Yıldırım Bayezid Mosque, built in 1382 by Prince Yıldırım Bayezid, stands at the centre of the town. An urban archaeological site, Mudurnu was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List in 2014 and joined the Cittaslow network in 2018.
