Adilcevaz, on the northern shore of Lake Van at the foot of Mount Süphan, has Adilcevaz Castle on a rocky hill by the lake, dating from the Urartian period; nearby Kef Castle is thought to have been built in the 9th century BC under the Urartian king Rusa I.
