Meteor Çukuru (Meteor Pit) lies within Ağrı Dağı National Park, 35 kilometres east of central Doğubayazıt. Formed as a cylindrical, well-shaped pit within layers of basalt, it is about 60 metres deep and 35 metres across. According to official sources it is, by depth and size, the world's second largest meteor crater after the one in Alaska; local tradition holds that it was formed by a meteorite that fell in 1892.
