An ancient city continuously settled from the Hittite period to the Ottomans, home to the Byzantine army's headquarters in Anatolia.

Amorium, 12 km east of central Emirdağ in Hisarköy village, was continuously settled from around 2000 BC through the Hittite, Phrygian, Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman periods. The site is studied in two parts: an Upper City formed by the mound with the earliest layers, and a walled Lower City around it. After AD 640 it became the headquarters of the Byzantine army in Anatolia and the capital of the Anatolikon province; parts of its fortification walls, dated to the reign of Emperor Zeno, survive today.
